Walker and Process Explorer from working properly (I get an error message
telling me that CYGWIN1.DLL cannot be found). Any suggestions?

Strange. It works ok for me. Maybe the library with cygwin1.dll needs to be
on the library path?

Anyway, it shows:

Name Size
advapi32.dll	0x9B000
ctype.nls	0x3000
cygwin1.dll	0x259000
fffims.mp2	0xF70000 (That's the input file)
gdi32.dll	0x47000
kernel32.dll	0xF4000
locale.nls	0x3D000
lpk.dll	0x9000
minimad.exe	0x33000
msvcrt.dll	0x58000
ntdll.dll	0xB0000
rpcrt4.dll	0x91000
sortkey.nls	0x41000
sorttbls.nls	0x6000
unicode.nls	0x16000
user32.dll	0x90000
usp10.dll	0x6B000

I forgot that minimad memory-maps the input file, so that could explain some
of the high memory usage you see.
I statically-linked minimad with libmad. It's a non-optimised debug build
